Scouting Report: Hunter Stovall
Chicago Cubs | 2B
Overall
Summary
Cubs right-hander Hunter Harvey suffered a setback in his recovery from triceps inflammation, with an MRI revealing a stress reaction in his triceps area. Manager Craig Counsell announced Harvey will be out of action for at least another month. Harvey last pitched on April 8 and was initially placed on the 15-day IL on April 9. The Cubs are likely to move him to the 60-day IL. This is part of a troubling pattern for Harvey, whose career has been defined by injuries. He has made 186 games since his 2019 debut but has only pitched 189 innings. In 2025, he threw just 10 2/3 innings with the Royals due to a teres major strain and Grade 2 adductor strain. With the Cubs in 2026, he posted a 6.75 ERA over four innings before the triceps issue emerged. Harvey has experienced 12+ IL stints in his career prior to signing with the Cubs on a one-year, $6.5MM deal.
Strengths
- Solid career ERA of 3.07 when healthy (2022-25 with Nationals/Royals)
