Scouting Report: Fernando Abad
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Mick Abel, 24-year-old Minnesota Twins right-hander acquired from Philadelphia in the Jhoan Duran trade, was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 20 with right-elbow inflammation. After initially showing promise with a 3.98 ERA and 2.79 FIP in early season appearances, Abel suffered a setback during a simulated bullpen session on Saturday when he experienced soreness in his right triceps. He received a cortisone injection and is undergoing re-evaluation. The pitcher is several weeks away from returning, requiring additional throwing sessions, bullpen work, and a minor-league rehab assignment before potentially returning to the rotation in June.
