Scouting Report: Chris Ellis
Chicago Cubs | SP
Overall
Summary
Chris Martin, 39-year-old Texas Rangers right-handed reliever, has been sidelined since April 15 with a right shoulder impingement. After progressing through bullpen sessions and live batting practice, he began a Triple-A rehab assignment on May 13, 2026. In his first rehab appearance, Martin allowed 4 runs on 4 hits in 2/3 innings with 2 home runs, both on his splitter. This continues a troubling trend from his 2026 season where he posted a 7.11 ERA in 8 games with opponents hitting .667 against his splitter (1.000 slugging percentage, 0% whiff rate). His splitter, which was a plus-3 run value pitch with 25% putaway rate last season, has become a liability.
Strengths
- Physically felt good during rehab appearance
- Successfully completed bullpen sessions without issue
