Summary

Chris Martin, 39-year-old Rangers right-handed reliever, has been sidelined since April 15 with a right shoulder impingement. He threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on May 6 and was cleared for a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock starting May 12. However, his early 2026 performance has been concerning with a 7.11 ERA in 6 1/3 innings before injury. In his Triple-A rehab appearance on May 13, he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits in 2/3 innings with 2 home runs, both on his splitter. His splitter, once a plus-3 run value pitch with 25% putaway rate in 2025, has been heavily hit with opponents batting .667 against it this season. Martin expressed being 'stumped' by his performance issues.

Strengths

  • Physically felt good during rehab appearance
  • Cleared multiple hurdles in recovery process (bullpen session, live batting practice)
