Scouting Report: Brendan McKay
Chicago Cubs | SP
Overall
Summary
Brendan Donovan, All-Star third baseman for the Seattle Mariners, has been dealing with a left groin strain since April 18, 2026, stemming from sports hernia surgery performed in October 2025. He was activated from the 10-day IL on May 8 after a rehab assignment with Double-A Arkansas (1-for-3 with a double, RBI, and two walks). However, he was subsequently placed back on the 10-day IL due to recurring groin issues. When healthy, Donovan has been one of the Mariners' most productive hitters, batting .304 with a .437 OBP, .518 SLG, and .954 OPS through 18 games with 3 HRs and 3 doubles. His injury complications stem from both the offseason surgery and an awkward sliding catch against Cleveland on March 28 that aggravated his hip/groin area.
Strengths
- Elite offensive production when healthy (.304 BA, .954 OPS)
- Strong plate discipline with 9 walks to 12 strikeouts in 18 games
