José Caballero, Yankees shortstop, suffered a right middle finger fracture while diving back to first base against the Brewers on May 12, 2026. He was placed on the 10-day IL. Caballero has been performing well offensively (.259/.320/.400, 105 wRC+) and defensively since taking over the starting shortstop role from Anthony Volpe. He has excelled in clutch situations and stolen 13 bases. Manager Aaron Boone promised him the starting SS role upon return.
