Scouting Report: Anthony Veneziano
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Roman Anthony, 21-year-old Red Sox outfielder, was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Tuesday, May 6) due to a right hand sprain with a sprained ligament under his right ring finger. The injury occurred on Monday, May 5 during the first at-bat against Detroit Tigers pitcher Tyler Holton on a check swing. Anthony has not picked up a bat since the injury. He was initially day-to-day but the Red Sox opted for the IL placement to avoid playing short-handed. Anthony is optimistic about returning within 10 days and plans to be in the lineup the day after becoming eligible (May 15). This is his second IL stint in as many seasons, having missed most of September 2025 with an oblique strain. Anthony has struggled at the plate in 2026, hitting .229 with 1 home run in 130 plate appearances, a significant decline from his impressive .292/.396/.463 rookie season in 2025.
