Scouting Report: Anthony Alford
Chicago Cubs | CF
Overall
Summary
Roman Anthony, Boston Red Sox outfielder, was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 6, 2026) due to a right hand sprain with a sprained ligament under his right ring finger. The injury occurred on May 4 during an at-bat against Detroit when Anthony fouled off a pitch on a check swing. Initially deemed day-to-day, the injury required IL placement. As of May 9, Anthony has received a cortisone shot and was removed from his splint, progressing to throwing activities but has not yet resumed batting. Manager Chad Tracy indicated Anthony could potentially swing a bat by the end of the Atlanta series. Anthony expressed confidence about returning soon after the IL stint ends (eligible May 15).
Strengths
- Injury appears to be healing well with cortisone treatment
- Removed from splint and cleared for throwing activities
