Summary
Alex Verdugo, 29-year-old outfielder, has been released by the San Diego Padres after suffering a shoulder labrum injury requiring season-ending surgery. Verdugo signed a minor-league deal with the Padres in March 2026 but did not break camp with the team and did not appear in any minor-league games. He has not played a major-league game in approximately 20 months. His career has been in decline since being traded to the Yankees before the 2024 season, posting a .647 OPS with New York compared to .761 OPS with the Red Sox. In 2025 with the Braves, he appeared in 56 games with a career-worst .239/.296/.289 line and -0.3 bWAR with no home runs in 213 plate appearances.
