Summary

Alejandro Kirk (Toronto Blue Jays catcher) suffered a fractured and dislocated left thumb on April 3, 2026, requiring surgery with a screw insertion. As of mid-May, Kirk is progressing through his recovery without setbacks. He has begun a hitting progression starting with tee work and flips, is catching and throwing regularly, but still feels some discomfort in his thumb when swinging. Manager John Schneider expects a better assessment by end of week regarding rehab assignment eligibility. Kirk could return before end of May if progress continues. Kirk was a 2x All-Star who slashed .282/.348/.421 with 15 HR in 130 games in 2025, but only played 5 games in 2026 before injury (.150 avg, 1 HR, 2 RBI).
