Scouting Report: Shane Baz
Baltimore Orioles | SP
Overall
Summary
Shane Baz, acquired by the Baltimore Orioles in December 2025 for four prospects and a 2026 draft pick, signed a five-year, $68 million extension in March. However, through eight starts in 2026, he has struggled significantly with a 5.48 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. In his most recent outing against the Athletics on May 9, Baz allowed five earned runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings while striking out five, taking the loss. He has now given up at least four earned runs in four of his last five outings, posting a 6.04 ERA over that stretch. The Orioles' significant investment in Baz has not yet paid dividends, and he needs to turn things around quickly.
Strengths
- Mentorship from veteran Chris Bassitt on the Orioles roster
- Young age (26 years old) with time to improve
