Summary

Jordan Westburg, 27-year-old Baltimore Orioles infielder and 2024 All-Star, underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on May 15, 2026, and will miss the entire 2026 season. Westburg suffered a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) during spring training and initially attempted conservative treatment with a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in February. He began a throwing progression in April but experienced a setback and was shut down again in early May. After consulting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the decision was made to proceed with surgery. GM Mike Elias stated that Westburg is expected to return as a full-time player early in the 2027 season and that the timing of the surgery did not delay his 2027 timeline. This injury continues a troubling pattern for Westburg, who was limited to 85 games in 2025 due to various injuries (left hamstring, left index finger, right ankle).
