Scouting Report: Michael Stefanic
Athletics | 2B
Overall
Summary
Michael Stefanic, 30-year-old utility infielder, was called up by the Athletics on May 12, 2026 to provide infield depth while Jacob Wilson was placed on the 10-day IL with a shoulder injury. Stefanic went 2-for-5 with a run scored in his brief four-day stint in the majors. However, he was designated for assignment on May 17 when the Athletics acquired Alika Williams from Pittsburgh. He was subsequently outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas. At Triple-A, Stefanic posted a .250/.351/.355 slash line in 149 plate appearances with a 17:16 BB:K ratio. He is a career .231/.315/.269 hitter at the MLB level but has been a strong Triple-A performer with a .326/.422/.447 line over 2000+ plate appearances. His elite strike zone judgment and contact skills are offset by limited power production and defensive limitations (better suited for second/third base than shortstop).
Strengths
- Elite strike zone judgment
- Pure contact skills
