Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Mitchell Parker has undergone a dramatic pitching transformation in 2026 after a disastrous 2025 season (5.68 ERA). Sent to the minors in March, Parker has completely revamped his arsenal, shifting from a fastball-heavy approach (55% 4-seam usage) to a slider-dominant strategy (58% slider usage). His slider is now 2 mph slower but features significantly more break. Despite the heavy slider usage, Parker is generating elite whiff rates (~40% on the slider) and has elite whiff/chase rates ranking in the 93rd percentile. His fastball has become more effective as a secondary pitch, with batters hitting just .167 against it. Parker is currently operating as a swing man in a new role for the Washington Nationals with a 4.05 ERA, though underlying metrics suggest stronger performance than the ERA indicates.
Strengths
- + Complete arsenal overhaul with improved pitch sequencing
- + Elite whiff rate on slider (~40%) despite heavy usage
- + Fastball effectiveness improved significantly (.167 BA allowed)
- + Elite whiff and chase rates (93rd percentile)
- + Successful transition to swing man role
- + Slider has much more break with better movement profile
- + Underlying metrics suggest better performance than ERA indicates
Weaknesses
- - 4.05 ERA still elevated despite improved underlying metrics
- - Long-term sustainability of slider-heavy approach uncertain
- - Slider expected batting average (.233) still respectable for hitters
- - Uncertainty about whether new approach will work long-term
