Updated May 19, 2026
Josh Simpson, a 28-year-old left-handed pitcher from Connecticut (Stafford High/Columbia University), was acquired by the Seattle Mariners from Miami in February 2026. He was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on May 1, sent back May 2 without pitching, then recalled again May 4. He made his Mariners debut against Chicago White Sox on May 8-9, striking out Colson Montgomery to secure a 12-8 win. He appeared in three games with a 7.71 ERA and 3 strikeouts before being optioned back to Triple-A on May 14 to make roster room for Jose Ferrer's return from paternity list. Simpson has extensive minor league experience (110+ games over 4 seasons) and was previously called up to Miami in 2023 but did not appear in a game.
