Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Jared Jones, 24-year-old Pirates right-handed pitcher, is progressing through rehab assignments following UCL surgery in May 2025. He missed the entire 2025 season with a right elbow injury. Jones has completed two rehab starts: a perfect three-inning outing with 5 strikeouts for Single-A Bradenton (April 29), and a solid three-inning performance allowing one run on five hits with 2 strikeouts for Triple-A Indianapolis (May 6). He reached 100.1 mph on his fastball with an average of 98.8 mph. GM Ben Cherington expects Jones to make 4-5 total rehab starts before returning to the Pirates rotation, targeting a late May/early June MLB return. The Pirates view him as a long-term starter and may implement a six-man rotation to manage his workload.
