Yuki Matsui, 30-year-old Japanese left-handed pitcher, is being activated from the 15-day injured list on May 5, 2026, after recovering from a left groin strain sustained during spring training. Matsui completed a month-long rehab assignment in Triple-A where he made 11 appearances with a 4.97 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and 14:3 K:BB ratio across 12.2 innings. He is expected to return to a middle-relief role for the San Diego Padres. In 2025, Matsui posted a 3.98 ERA with 61 strikeouts over 63.1 innings in 61 relief appearances, recording his first career MLB save. The Padres signed him to a five-year, $28 million deal before the 2024 season after 10 seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball.
