Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Jhony Brito is a right-handed pitcher for the San Diego Padres who underwent UCL internal brace surgery in April 2025. As of May 2026 (approximately 13 months post-op), he is progressing through his minor-league rehabilitation assignment. He began his rehab in the Arizona Complex League with mixed results (5 runs on 9 hits over 6 innings with a 9:1 K:BB ratio), then was advanced to Double-A San Antonio where he made his first start, allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits with 2 walks and 1 strikeout over 4 innings. He is being built up as a starter and will require extended time to complete his rehabilitation before returning to MLB competition.
Strengths
- + Strong strikeout rate in early rehab (9:1 K:BB in ACL)
- + Progressing through rehab levels (ACL to Double-A)
- + Building up as a starter with structured plan
- + Unearned runs in Double-A debut show defensive support issues, not pitcher performance
- + 13 months post-UCL surgery shows reasonable recovery timeline
Weaknesses
- - Currently on 60-day IL recovering from UCL internal brace surgery
- - Early rehab results showed elevated ERA (5 runs in 6 innings)
- - Limited innings pitched in rehab assignments so far
- - Still in early stages of return-to-play progression
- - Uncertainty regarding full recovery and return to pre-injury form
Injury Status: IL-60 -- UCL internal brace procedure performed April 2025; currently 13 months post-op and progressing through minor-league rehabilitation
