Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Cole Ragans, 28-year-old All-Star left-hander for the Kansas City Royals, has been placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 7 with left elbow impingement (Valgus Extension Overload/VEO). Ragans experienced discomfort during a Wednesday start against Cleveland, pitching only 3 innings before exiting. Medical evaluation revealed no structural damage. He received a lubricant injection and will be shut down for 3-4 days before resuming baseball activities. Manager Matt Quatraro expects a minimal IL stay. Ragans has twice undergone Tommy John surgery previously but stated this injury felt different. In 2024, he posted a 3.14 ERA over 32 starts as an All-Star. This season he has a 4.84 ERA with recent injury history including groin strain and rotator cuff strain last year.
