Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Ben Rice, Yankees first baseman, suffered a left hand contusion on May 3 after misjudging a pickoff throw from Max Fried. Manager Aaron Boone indicated the injury appears day-to-day and unlikely to require an IL stint. Rice was trending in the right direction as of May 6, with Boone noting he felt better and may be available as a reserve. Prior to the injury, Rice was leading the AL in batting average and all of baseball in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. Paul Goldschmidt has filled in admirably, and the Yankees have won all games without Rice.
