Scouting Report

Updated May 19, 2026

Edwin Díaz, the Los Angeles Dodgers' three-time All-Star closer signed to a three-year, $69 million contract in December 2025, was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 10, 2026, following arthroscopic elbow surgery on April 22 to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. The 32-year-old had a disastrous 2026 debut, posting a 10.50 ERA across seven appearances before the injury, including a particularly poor outing on April 20 against Colorado where he failed to record an out while allowing three runs. He is not expected to return until after the All-Star break in mid-July. The move was made to clear roster space for relief pitcher Wyatt Mills. Díaz was acquired specifically to address the Dodgers' bullpen weakness from 2025, but his early performance and subsequent injury have made him a significant disappointment despite being considered the best offseason acquisition by some MLB executives.
