Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Abraham Toro was placed on the 10-day injured list with a mild left oblique strain after leaving Saturday's game in the fourth inning while diving headfirst toward home. This is the second time Toro has dealt with a left oblique issue, having missed time last season with the same injury. The timing is particularly problematic for the Tigers, who are already dealing with multiple infield injuries including Trey Sweeney (shoulder strain), Javier Báez (ankle sprain), and recent returns of Zach McKinstry. Jace Jung was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Toro's roster spot.
Strengths
- + Drawing walks at career-best 17.4% rate (3 ticks better than last year)
- + wRC+ of 111 indicates 11% better than league average hitter overall
- + .389 on-base percentage shows strong plate discipline
- + Veteran presence and experience at second base
Weaknesses
- - Recurring left oblique strain (second occurrence)
- - Only 2 home runs through 144 plate appearances
- - Low batting average of .259
- - Injury timing coincides with multiple other Tigers infield injuries
- - Mild oblique strains can linger and affect performance upon return
- - Limited power production in 2026 season
Injury Status: IL-10
