Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Jared Jones is progressing through his rehab assignment following UCL surgery in May 2025. The 24-year-old Pirates pitcher has completed three rehab starts (Single-A Bradenton on April 29, Triple-A Indianapolis on May 6, and Double-A Altoona on May 12), showing strong velocity (100.1 mph peak, 98.8 mph average on fastball) and solid performance. He threw 54 pitches in his Triple-A outing with 5 hits, 1 ER, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts over 3 innings. In his first rehab start, he threw 3 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts. Jones has made it clear he wants to return to the starting rotation, not the bullpen. GM Ben Cherington expects him to make "several" minor league starts before returning to Pittsburgh. Expected return is in the coming weeks.
