Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Carlos Santana, 40-year-old first baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, suffered a setback in his rehab assignment on May 11, 2026, re-injuring his right adductor/groin strain while playing for Triple-A Reno. He had been sidelined since April 5 and was nearing a return when the reaggravation occurred. Santana started 8 of the D-backs' first 10 games but struggled offensively (.083 BA, .279 OPS, 2-for-24) before the initial injury. In 7 rehab games with Reno, he went 3-for-25 before being pulled from Sunday's game. Manager Torey Lovullo noted Santana had hit a home run a couple days prior and his swing was coming around. The injury extends the D-backs' roster decision timeline as they manage multiple infield options including Ildemaro Vargas (.341 BA), Jose Fernandez, and Tyler Locklear.
