Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Logan Webb, the Giants' ace and two-time All-Star (2024-2025), was placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee bursitis on May 9, 2026. He was removed from his start against the Padres after just 4 innings due to knee discomfort. This marks his first IL stint in five years (since 2021). Webb is expected to return when eligible on May 21 with a minimum stay. However, his 2026 season has been significantly underwhelming with a 2-4 record, 5.06 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and concerning advanced metrics (hard-hit rate in 7th percentile, xwOBA in 33rd percentile). Some analysts are questioning whether his best days may be behind him, attributing struggles to accumulated workload from three consecutive 200+ inning seasons and early-season World Baseball Classic participation.
Strengths
- + Two-time All-Star (2024-2025)
- + Led NL in innings pitched for three consecutive years
- + Historically durable starter with 156 consecutive starts before this IL stint
- + Strong groundball pitcher (58.5% GB rate)
- + Expected to return when first eligible (May 21) with minimum IL stay
- + xFIP and SIERA around 3.50 suggest underlying metrics better than surface ERA
- + Track record of durability and consistency over multiple seasons
Injury Status: IL-15 -- Right knee bursitis; placed on 15-day IL on May 9, 2026 (retroactive to May 6). Expected to return when eligible on May 21. Minimum IL stay anticipated. Webb has dealt with knee issues for some time but has been able to pitch through them in recent years. However, this season the knee issue has affected his ability to fully utilize his delivery and reach certain parts of the strike zone.
