Updated May 19, 2026
Luis Robert Jr., 28-year-old Cuban outfielder for the New York Mets, is on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar spine disc herniation. As of mid-May 2026, he is not progressing as expected and continues to experience lingering symptoms and discomfort in his lower back. Manager Carlos Mendoza stated Robert "is not progressing the way we would like." Robert has not been cleared to resume baseball activities and appears ticketed for an extended absence. The team received an injection upon landing on the IL but has not ruled out consulting additional specialists. Prior to injury, Robert was struggling offensively, hitting .224 (19-for-85) with 2 home runs in 24 games played. The Mets called up prospect A.J. Ewing to fill the center field void.
