Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
37-year-old veteran reliever Liam Hendriks signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs after being released by the Minnesota Twins on Opening Day 2026. Hendriks is attempting a comeback following multiple serious injuries including Tommy John surgery (2023-2024) and a right hip issue that limited his 2025 season with Boston, where he posted a 6.59 ERA in 14 games. The Cubs are providing depth to their injury-depleted bullpen. Hendriks will report to Arizona to ramp up before potentially joining Triple-A Iowa. Manager Craig Counsell stated this is a low-risk depth move on a former All-Star who had great success from 2019-2022 with the Athletics and White Sox.
