Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Gabriel Hughes, 24-year-old RHP and 10th overall pick of 2022 MLB Draft, started the 2026 season with promise after returning from Tommy John surgery (July 2023) and missing all of 2024. His first two outings showed encouraging ERAs of 3.60 and 2.61. However, his performance deteriorated significantly with ERAs of 4.91, 6.11, 9.00, and 8.64 in his last four outings. His season record stands at 0-1 with an 8.64 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 25 innings in six appearances. He is allowing nearly 15 hits per 9 innings. On April 30, Hughes was placed on the 7-day IL with an undisclosed injury, one day after pitching against El Paso. His downward trend and injury placement suggest his expected MLB arrival may be pushed to 2027.
