Peter Lambert has emerged as a surprise success story for the Houston Astros in 2026 after being called up from Triple-A Sugar Land on April 17. Making his first MLB appearance since August 2024 with the Colorado Rockies, Lambert has delivered quality starts against top competition. In his first two starts against the Cleveland Guardians and Los Angeles Dodgers, he allowed just six hits and zero earned runs over 13 innings with 12 strikeouts. He has tied for the team lead in quality starts with Lance McCullers Jr. and Spencer Arrighetti. Most notably, he out-dueled Shohei Ohtani in a win against the Dodgers. Over his first four starts, Lambert has posted a 2-3 record. In his most recent outing on May 11 against the Mariners, he lasted seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts in a loss. While walk rate has been an issue (10 BBs over his last three starts), his strikeout ability has been consistently strong (16 Ks in first two starts). The Astros have won three of four games with Lambert contributing to their turnaround from a 15-22 start.
