Elvin Rodriguez

Elmer Rodríguez, 22-year-old right-handed pitcher and Yankees No. 3 prospect, was recalled to fill Max Fried's rotation spot due to Fried's left elbow bone bruise. Rodríguez made two MLB starts against the Texas Rangers (April 29 and May 5, 2026). In his debut, he allowed 2 runs in 4 innings with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. In his second start at Yankee Stadium, he allowed 3 runs in 4.2 innings with 4 walks, 2 strikeouts, and a wild pitch, struggling particularly in the first inning (37 pitches, 3 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 HBP). Despite control issues, he showed promise with a strong five-pitch mix, 95-96 mph fastball, excellent ground ball rate (9 groundouts in 8.2 IP), and soft contact allowed. He was optioned back to Triple-A after his second start as Carlos Rodón prepared to return. At Triple-A, Rodríguez posted a 1.27 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 7 walks in 21.1 innings before his call-up.
