Dylan Carlson, 27, a former 33rd overall pick (2016) and 2021 NL Rookie of the Year finalist with the Cardinals, has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies after being released by the Cubs. He will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Carlson's career has declined significantly since his strong 2021 season (.266/.343/.437, 18 HR). He has become a journeyman depth player, bouncing between the Cardinals, Rays, Orioles, and Cubs. With the Cubs in 2026, he hit .175/.250/.350 in 44 Triple-A plate appearances before release. Since the start of 2024, he has hit .204/.280/.303 across multiple organizations. The Phillies view this as a low-risk depth signing with minimal expectations.
