Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Clay Holmes, 33-year-old right-handed pitcher for the New York Mets, suffered a fractured right fibula on May 16, 2026, after being struck by a 111 mph line drive off the bat of Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones. Holmes was placed on the 15-day injured list. Medical evaluation indicates surgery is not necessary. Holmes is expected to require 6-8 weeks of shutdown from all baseball activities, followed by an additional 4-6 weeks of gradual ramp-up similar to Spring Training. Manager Carlos Mendoza expressed optimism about Holmes returning to the rotation in August 2026. Prior to the injury, Holmes was performing exceptionally well, leading the National League in ERA at 1.86 with eight consecutive starts allowing two or fewer earned runs. He was in the 93rd percentile for ground ball percentage and demonstrated excellent control with a 1.01 WHIP.
