Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Chase Dollander, 24-year-old RHP for the Colorado Rockies, was placed on the 15-day IL with a right elbow strain after being pulled from a game against Pittsburgh on May 14, 2026. MRI results showed only a minor UCL sprain with inflammation, avoiding the worst-case scenario of a torn UCL requiring Tommy John surgery. Dollander expressed relief, calling it "the best-case scenario." Prior to injury, he was performing well as a breakout young pitcher with a 3.89 ERA, 47 strikeouts, and a 3-3 record in 10 starts (mostly as a bulk reliever). The 2023 ninth overall pick is expected to miss approximately one month.
Strengths
- + Dodged major injury - minor UCL sprain vs. torn ligament
- + Breakout season performance with 3.89 ERA
- + 47 strikeouts in 44 innings showing strong stuff
- + Young talent (24 years old) with high ceiling as future ace
- + Positive mindset and relief about injury diagnosis
- + Expected to return within one month rather than season-ending injury
Weaknesses
- - Currently on 15-day injured list
- - Experienced arm tightness and unusual sensations in arm/fingers during pitching
- - Early exit from game (2nd inning, 28 pitches)
- - Allowed 3 earned runs in limited appearance before injury
- - Uncertainty about exact cause of arm issues initially
- - Will miss significant time during critical development period
Injury Status: IL-15
