Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Cole Ragans, 28-year-old All-Star left-handed pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, has been placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 7) with left elbow impingement, diagnosed as Valgus Extension Overload (VEO) or "pitcher's elbow." The injury occurred during his Wednesday start against Cleveland, where he departed after three innings. Ragans received a lubricant injection and will be shut down for 3-4 days before resuming baseball activities. Manager Matt Quatraro indicated this should be a minimal IL stay. Ragans has a history of two Tommy John surgeries but stated this injury feels different. He has a 4.84 ERA in 8 starts this season with 10 home runs allowed in 35.1 innings and a .819 opponent OPS. The Royals recalled Stephen Kolek and Steven Cruz while optioning Eric Cerantola.
