Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Clay Holmes, a starting pitcher for the New York Mets, suffered a fractured right fibula after being struck by a 111 mph line drive off the bat of Spencer Jones on May 14, 2026. Holmes was placed on the 15-day injured list. Manager Carlos Mendoza and Holmes himself are optimistic about his recovery, with surgery not appearing necessary. Holmes is expected to need 6-8 weeks to heal plus an additional ramp-up period similar to Spring Training (approximately 4-6 weeks), which would put his return sometime in August 2026. Despite the injury, Holmes had been performing exceptionally well as a starter with a 1.69 ERA through seven starts, the second-lowest among qualified NL starters.
