Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony suffered a right wrist sprain on May 4, 2026, during a check swing in the first inning against Detroit. Initial X-rays came back negative. After undergoing an MRI and consulting with a hand specialist on May 5, the Red Sox determined Anthony is dealing with a wrist sprain and is day-to-day. Manager Chad Tracy indicated the injury "isn't getting much better" but there is no imminent IL placement. Anthony was placed on the 10-day IL on May 8 with a right wrist sprain, though he expects to return after a minimal stint. The 21-year-old has struggled offensively in 2026 with a .229/.354/.321 line over 30 games, down significantly from his impressive .292/.396/.463 rookie season in 2025 when he finished 3rd in AL Rookie of the Year voting. He also dealt with back soreness earlier in the season.
