Jonah Heim, 30-year-old switch-hitting catcher, was acquired by the Athletics from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations on May 5, 2026. Heim was designated for assignment by Atlanta after Sean Murphy returned from hip surgery. With the A's, Heim will serve as backup to starting catcher Shea Langeliers and potentially replace struggling backup Austin Wynns. Heim is a former All-Star (2023) and World Series champion with Texas (2023), but has struggled this season with a .231 average, .721 OPS, 1 HR and 8 RBIs in 12 games with Atlanta.
