John Gil

Luis Gil, 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, has experienced a frustrating 18-month stretch marked by significant injuries and performance decline. After missing the first four months of 2025 with a lat strain, he returned in August with a 3.32 ERA but showed a 10-point drop in strikeout rate. In 2026, Gil struggled significantly in four MLB starts (6.05 ERA, 9 K's in 19.1 IP, 12.9% walk rate) before being optioned to Triple-A on April 26. He was subsequently placed on the minor league IL on May 10 with right shoulder inflammation and will not throw for at least three weeks. Manager Aaron Boone indicated this is a new injury separate from his April performance issues. Meanwhile, John Gil (a different player), a 19-year-old Braves prospect, is thriving at High-A Rome with a .305/.403/.508 slash line, 6 home runs, and 20 steals in 31 games.
